Book Celebrations: Early Readers

We've read so many fun books in the early years of homeschooling, but here are a few of our favorites that we had an absolute blast celebrating!

Make it simple: The Mouse and the Motorcycle
Who doesn't love a childhood classic like Mouse and the Motorcycle? We had so much fun reading this and watching the, very, old school movie. We made PB & Jam thumbprint cookies to celebrate.

Remember book celebrations don't have to be all or nothing. You can make one simple thing together or pick something up from the store. The point is: discussion, connection, celebration, and to have fun.
Little Bear is such a sweet early reader. Did you know there is also a show? My kiddos not only loved the book but thoroughly enjoyed watching those words on each page come to life through the television series.

To celebrate? Just a simple Little Bear cake, with printouts and a picnic tablecloth. My reader helped to make the cake, so perfection was not the name of the game. Having a fun time baking and letting him explore those skills was the most fun part of this book celebration.
Frog and Toad is another early reader classic. It too has a little show you can watch! When we wrapped up this series, we decided to go with a pond theme and even ordered a fun photography backdrop. I just taped it to the ceiling (use painter's tape, it'll save your ceiling) and to the kitchen counter.

My kiddo helped to make cupcakes, which we then frosted with green icing and dipped in a bowl of green sprinkles. We used Oreos and mini chocolate chips for the eyes and red icing for the mouth. They were cute and delicious. He made some happy and some sad faces, which was fun. I ordered the lily pads off Amazon. It was a fun little theme!
These are just a couple of the readers and chapter books we had the pleasure of celebrating, but the point is to make it as simple or overdone as you wish (and as you have the bandwidth for). It is also important to have your kids in on the process. It is a great time for connection without pressure.
Happy reading! Jenna
