Down on the Farm: Week 2

We are having so much fun diving into our curriculum theme this month: Down on the Farm! This week we focused on hens, eggs, and harvesting.

One of our favorite activities was creating sunset shadows using process art! Not only did we have a chance to talk about primary and secondary colors (along with lightning and darkening), but we also talked about sunrises and sunsets.

We explored the farmer’s world of harvesting this week through books, games, and bread making! We ground wheat and made honey wheat bread (with a side of delicious a cinnamon honey butter). It helped the children connect to our harvesting unit and appreciate farmers!

For the younger children, we focused on letters e, i, and l! We used our letter scavenger pages from Experience Curriculum to help us understand what sound each letter makes.

The younger kiddos practiced their color sightwords using plastic eggs (the word was written in color on a slip of paper, they had to match it with the correct color in the egg carton). The older children (first grade) played an egg sightwords game!

As always Experience Curriculum sent us a fun board game! Best part: it was cooperative and taught about the life cycle of a chicken!

Well that’s a small taste of our week! Looking forward you sharing more next week!
