Salt Dough Recipe

We love using salt dough in this house! Every year we make a batch of ornaments to both give away (hello easy present for grandparent) and keep (a little memento each year).

It is easy to make!

🥣 1 cup of all purpose flour

🥣 1/2 cup salt

🥣 1/4 cup warm water

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and preheat your oven to 225 degrees.

Roll out your dough on a lightly floured surface.

Use your favorite cookie cutters to make shapes (Dough should be around 1/4 inch thick- if it is too thin it’ll break apart once dried).

Use a straw to poke a hole through the top of your ornaments (this is where we will add string later. Then bake at 225 for approximately two hours. You want your ornaments to be firm and not doughy but if they start to crack take them out of the oven. I do flip mine halfway through.

Once cooled, use acrylic paints to decorate and then seal with modge podge. Add string and you have a beautiful ornament! Don’t forget to add your child’s name and the year on the back.
